Where to Watch the Live-Action Moana at Home: Digital Price and Disney+ Status


 Disney’s live-action Moana is officially available to watch at home starting Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2026, but there is an important catch for Disney+ subscribers.

The movie is currently a premium digital rental or purchase, not part of the Disney+ subscription library.

U.S. viewers can find the 2026 Moana on digital platforms including Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV and Fandango at Home. Current pricing on Prime Video and Fandango at Home is $24.99 to rent or $29.99 to buy.

Disney has not yet announced when the live-action movie will begin streaming on Disney+.

Where Can You Watch the 2026 Moana at Home?

Disney released the live-action Moana on premium digital platforms Sept. 8.

The movie is available in digital formats including 4K UHD, HD and SD, depending on the retailer and device.

This is commonly called a premium video-on-demand release, or PVOD.

It means you can watch the movie at home before it reaches a subscription streaming service, but you have to pay separately to rent or own it.

How Much Does Moana Cost to Rent or Buy?

Current U.S. pricing shows the live-action Moana at:

  • Rent: $24.99
  • Buy: $29.99

Fandango at Home currently lists both prices, and Prime Video is also showing a $24.99 HD rental and $29.99 UHD purchase.

Prices can eventually drop as a movie gets further from its theatrical release, so someone who is not in a hurry may want to wait.

The $5 difference between renting and buying is also worth considering.

If your household expects to watch the movie more than once, purchasing it may make more sense than paying $24.99 for a premium rental.

Is Moana Free With Amazon Prime?

No.

Seeing Moana inside the Prime Video app does not mean it is included with an Amazon Prime subscription.

Prime Video sells and rents movies that are separate from the catalog included with Prime membership.

The live-action Moana currently requires an additional payment even if you already pay for Amazon Prime.

This distinction can be confusing because included Prime content and paid digital movies appear inside the same app.

Check the button carefully before ordering. If it shows a rental or purchase price, it is not included with your membership.

Is the Live-Action Moana on Disney+?

Not yet.

The animated 2016 Moana and Moana 2 are available through Disney+, but the 2026 live-action version is not currently included with a Disney+ subscription.

Disney has not announced an official Disney+ premiere date for the new movie.

For collectors or families who prefer owning physical media, waiting until Oct. 6 provides another alternative to paying for the premium digital version now.

Is There a Moana 3-Movie Collection?

Yes.

Disney is also releasing a Moana 3-Movie Collection that combines:

  1. Moana (2016)
  2. Moana 2
  3. Moana (2026 live action)

The digital collection becomes available Sept. 8, while a DVD version arrives Oct. 6.

This could make more sense for someone who wants to own the entire series rather than buying only the newest movie.

Availability and bundle pricing can differ by retailer, so compare the total with buying the movies individually.

How Long Is the Live-Action Moana?

The 2026 movie runs approximately 1 hour and 55 minutes and is rated PG.

Catherine Lagaʻaia stars as Moana, while Dwayne Johnson plays Maui.
