Are Banks Open on Labor Day 2026? Chase, Bank of America and Wells Fargo Hours

If you need to visit a bank on Labor Day, plan to take care of it before Monday.

Most major U.S. bank branches will be closed on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 7, 2026. The Federal Reserve also observes Labor Day as a holiday, and major banks including Chase, Bank of America and Wells Fargo list the holiday among their branch closure days.

ATMs, mobile banking and online banking should remain available, but some transfers, deposits and other transactions may not finish processing until the next business day.

Quick Take

  • Labor Day 2026: Monday, Sept. 7
  • Federal Reserve Banks: Closed
  • Chase branches: Generally closed
  • Bank of America financial centers: Closed
  • Wells Fargo branches: Closed
  • U.S. Bank branches: Closed
  • ATMs: Generally available
  • Mobile and online banking: Available
  • Regular banking resumes: Tuesday, Sept. 8
  • Some transfers or deposits: May take longer because of the holiday

Is Chase Open on Labor Day?

Chase offices in the United States are generally closed on Labor Day.

Chase’s official 2026 holiday schedule lists Monday, Sept. 7 as a bank holiday.

That means customers who need an in-person service such as meeting with a banker, accessing a safe deposit box or handling a transaction that requires a branch should plan around the Monday closure.

ATM and digital banking services are separate from branch hours, so customers can still perform many routine tasks without entering a Chase branch.

Specific ATM access can depend on location, particularly if a machine is located inside a building that is closed for the holiday.

Is Bank of America Open on Labor Day?

Bank of America will also be closed Monday, Sept. 7.

The bank’s official 2026 holiday schedule lists Labor Day among the holidays when its offices and financial centers close.

Bank of America also warns that holidays can affect the time required to process certain transactions. Updated transaction information may not appear until the next business day after a holiday.

That next regular business day is Tuesday, Sept. 8.

Bank of America ATMs can remain accessible even while the financial center itself is closed. Some locations specifically list 24-hour ATM access despite showing the branch as closed for Monday’s holiday.

Check your location if you need an ATM inside a building with restricted access.

Is Wells Fargo Open on Labor Day?

No.

Wells Fargo lists Labor Day as one of its nationwide branch holidays.

The bank advises customers to use its branch locator to confirm local schedules because temporary or nearby holiday-hour changes can still occur.

Even with branches closed, Wells Fargo says customers can perform many routine banking activities through its mobile app and online banking.

Available digital services include things such as:

  • Transfers
  • Bill pay
  • Mobile deposits
  • Zelle
  • Account balance checks
  • Transaction monitoring

Services that require an employee at a physical branch will generally have to wait until branches reopen.

What About U.S. Bank and Other Banks?

U.S. Bank also closes its branches for Labor Day.

Its current branch listings identify Monday as “Closed for holiday,” while many attached ATMs remain open 24 hours.

The same general pattern applies across much of the banking industry because Labor Day is a Federal Reserve holiday.

However, not every financial institution follows exactly the same schedule.

Smaller banks and credit unions can establish their own branch hours. Locations inside supermarkets, airports or other businesses can also operate differently from traditional standalone branches.

If you use a regional bank or credit union, check its official branch locator before making a trip Monday.

Will ATMs Work on Labor Day?

In most cases, yes.

A bank branch being closed does not automatically shut down its ATMs.

Customers should generally still be able to use accessible ATMs for services such as:

  • Cash withdrawals
  • Balance checks
  • Certain deposits
  • Transfers between eligible accounts

There is one important distinction.

Being able to submit a transaction at an ATM does not necessarily mean the transaction will be fully processed on Labor Day.

For example, a check deposited during a bank holiday may be treated differently from a deposit made on a normal business day when determining processing and funds availability.

Your bank’s deposit agreement and the specific transaction determine when funds become available.

Does Online Banking Still Work?

Yes.

Bank websites and mobile apps do not shut down simply because branches are closed.

You can generally still:

  • Check balances
  • Review transactions
  • Pay bills
  • Transfer money
  • Deposit checks through a mobile app
  • Lock or unlock cards
  • Find ATMs
  • Manage account settings

But the holiday can affect when a transaction actually processes.

A transfer that you request Monday may appear in the app immediately while still requiring processing on the next applicable banking day.

This is especially important when moving money between different financial institutions.

Will Direct Deposit Be Delayed by Labor Day?

It can be.

Labor Day is a Federal Reserve holiday, and Federal Reserve Financial Services follows a special holiday schedule.

FedACH, the Federal Reserve service used in processing many electronic payments, stops its normal weekend processing cycle and resumes processing Monday evening under its Labor Day schedule.

That can affect transactions that depend on a banking business day.

If your normal payday falls on Monday, your employer or payroll provider might arrange for payment earlier, but that is not guaranteed for every employee or bank.

Some banks also provide early direct deposit as an account feature, which can make the timing different from another bank receiving the same payroll file.

If a paycheck is important for weekend expenses, check your payroll schedule rather than assuming it will arrive Friday simply because Monday is a holiday.

What About Bank Transfers and Bill Payments?

The answer depends on the type of payment.

Transfers completed entirely within the same bank may behave differently from transactions requiring another financial institution or Federal Reserve settlement.

The Federal Reserve says most of its financial services are closed for Labor Day. FedNow is an exception and operates on a different continuous schedule.

Traditional ACH and other business-day-based transactions can therefore be affected by the holiday.

A bill payment scheduled for Labor Day may also have a different processing date depending on your bank and the company receiving the payment.

If a payment has a strict deadline, submitting it before the holiday weekend is the safer approach.

When Do Banks Reopen After Labor Day?

For most customers, normal branch banking resumes Tuesday, Sept. 8.

That is also the first normal business day following the Federal Reserve’s Labor Day closure.

If you need any service that cannot easily be completed through an ATM or banking app, such as a cashier’s check, notary service, safe deposit box access or an in-person meeting, completing it by Friday may save you from waiting through the long weekend.

The basic rule for Labor Day 2026 is straightforward:

Expect major bank branches to be closed Monday, Sept. 7, while ATMs and digital banking remain available. Transactions that depend on normal banking-day processing may not be completed until after the holiday.
