Why Is Costco Closed on Labor Day?

Labor Day is one of a relatively small number of holidays when Costco closes its U.S. warehouses.

  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Christmas Day

Labor Day falls on Monday, Sept. 7 in 2026, according to the U.S. Office of Personnel Management's federal holiday calendar.

Unlike some major retailers that remain open during many federal holidays, Costco maintains a relatively consistent list of full holiday closures.

What About Costco Gas Stations?

Do not assume you will be able to stop for Costco gas just because the pumps normally operate longer hours than the warehouse.

Costco warehouse pages can list holiday schedules separately for their gas stations. For example, current location information for Costco warehouses in Garden Grove, California, and Miami, Florida, specifically lists their gas stations as closed on Labor Day.

Because operating details can vary by location, the safest option is to check your specific Costco warehouse before relying on the gas station.

Costco recommends using its Find a Warehouse feature or Costco app to see local hours and adjusted holiday schedules.

If you need fuel for Labor Day travel, filling up before Monday can prevent an unexpected detour.

What About the Costco Pharmacy, Food Court and Tire Center?

The warehouse closure means shoppers should not plan on a normal Costco visit on Labor Day.

Services attached to a warehouse can include:

  • Tire Service Center
  • Optical Department
  • Hearing Aid Center
  • Food court
  • Gas station

When Will Costco Reopen After Labor Day?

For most shoppers, the next normal shopping day will be Tuesday, Sept. 8.

Exact opening times depend on your membership level and warehouse.

Costco currently gives Executive Members early shopping access at participating warehouses. Its published Executive Member schedule is:

  • Monday through Friday: 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.
  • Saturday: 9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
  • Sunday: 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Gold Star and Business members generally enter after the Executive-only period, although shoppers should still verify their individual warehouse hours before leaving home.

So if your local warehouse follows the standard schedule, Executive Members may be able to shop beginning at 9 a.m. Tuesday, while standard members may need to wait until 10 a.m.

Can You Still Shop Costco Online on Labor Day?

Costco memberships include access to both warehouses and Costco.com, so the physical warehouse closure does not mean you have to stop browsing or placing eligible online orders.

However, ordering something online is different from receiving it the same day.

Delivery availability, fulfillment times and holiday schedules can vary, so do not assume an item ordered on Labor Day will arrive immediately.

If you need food or supplies specifically for a Labor Day gathering, buying them before Monday is the safer option.

The Best Time to Make Your Labor Day Costco Run

Labor Day weekend can create heavier-than-normal shopping traffic because customers preparing for cookouts, road trips and gatherings may all be shopping before the Monday closure.

If possible, avoid leaving a large Costco trip until the last minute.

A simple plan is:

  2. Buy groceries and party supplies before Monday.
